2) Eat a light, low-fiber, low-fat, and high-carbohydrate meal two to three hours before the race, for example, a bagel with jelly, oatmeal with raisins, and cereal with a banana. Test what works for you during training.
3) Hydrate before the race. It’s difficult to drink while running. One tip is to squeeze the cup mostly closed and take small sips. When you’re done, toss the cup on the ground if you’ve passed the trash can. The race officials will pick it up.

Sure, there are lots of fun toys you can purchase along the way, but the best place to start your journey is to get professionally fitted at your local running specialty store. It’s best to shop at the end of the day when your feet are swollen from the day’s activities and be prepared to try on several pair. The staff should watch you walk and run in the shoes to make sure they work with your foot type. The shoe should feel comfortable. If not, keep looking.
