Are you wondering what would it feel to be part of a race? You might find training 10k run worthwhile. Don’t you think it’s about time to be a part of something wherein you’re not only doing it because it’s a hobby, but also because you benefit from it physically, psychologically and overall personally? If the answer is yes, well then you definitely need to have some competition injected to your life. If you’re the type of person who has completed a few fun runs and perhaps even a 5k run, it’s time to get to the next level. Once you’ve got the necessary experience on running, training 10k run and having it under your belt will chisel you from being just an enthusiast into a budding athlete. Below are some helpful tips for a proper training 10k run.

Stretching

After each training 10k run session it is advisable to stretch your legs. This should be a relaxing end to your workout so don’t be too aggressive when performing each stretch.

Starting Line Etiquette

As the runners line up, stay towards the back right side of the pack so that the competitive types don’t have to try and navigate around you. Remember, your first 10K is solely about finishing the race. Tell yourself it is okay to be passed by other runners, including the fat guy running barefoot and the 90 year old woman.

Race Day Tips

1) Do NOT try anything new on race day. This includes new shoes, shoelaces, socks, foods and drinks, shirts, etc. If you do want to try something new, be sure to do so on training runs at least two or three weeks before the race.

2) Eat a light, low-fiber, low-fat, and high-carbohydrate meal two to three hours before the race, for example, a bagel with jelly, oatmeal with raisins, and cereal with a banana. Test what works for you during training.

3) Hydrate before the race. It’s difficult to drink while running. One tip is to squeeze the cup mostly closed and take small sips. When you’re done, toss the cup on the ground if you’ve passed the trash can. The race officials will pick it up.

Accessorize

Shopping for running shoes and apparel is a lot of fun. The essentials include: a supportive pair of fitted running shoes, technical-wicking socks, and a sport watch. Sure, there are lots of fun toys you can purchase along the way, but the best place to start your journey is to get professionally fitted at your local running specialty store. Stride for stride they will support you to the finish line.

It’s best to shop at the end of the day when your feet are swollen from the day’s activities and be prepared to try on several pair. The staff should watch you walk and run in the shoes to make sure they work with your foot type. The shoe should feel comfortable. If not, keep looking.

Equipped with the proper knowledge of training 10k run, you should finish the race strong.
